RTA prepares for highway work

THE Pacific Highway upgrade from Sapphire to Woolgoolga moved a step closer yesterday after the State RTA called for interest from contractors to carry out the work.

The project will upgrade about 25 kilometres of the highway to dual carriageway from Campbell Close, Sapphire to the Arrawarra Beach Road.

“As well as the detailed design and construction of the road and bridge work, the contractors will also need to carry out environmental management to ensure minimal impact and disruption to the area,” said an RTA spokesman.

“A shortlist will be selected and applicants invited to submit detailed tenders for the project mid year. Work on the upgrade is expected to start next year.”

Key features of the improvements are:

  • A four-lane dual carriageway.
  • Interchanges at Gaudrons Road/Split Solitary, Moonee Beach Road/ Fiddaman Road and further north at Graham Drive North.

Geotechnical work and property acquisitions continue and the RTA is planning to relocate its works sites to the region later in the year.
