RSPCA Queensland CEO Mark Townend said the report into the state's greyhound racing industry had made some extremely encouraging recommendations.

But he urged the decision makers to not drop the ball in implementing them.

Mr Townend said the challenge was ensuring integrity in the industry with the aim of restoring public confidence.

"This will mean the industry will be infinitely more accountable than it has been in the past and for the first time some realistic solutions have been recommended that could help alleviate the appalling wastage of animals that either do not make the grade or have retired," he said.

"We certainly commend the government for acting quickly and being proactive.

"The results from the police task force are disturbing and the commission of inquiry has proved that the industry needs a fairly drastic overhaul."
