Royal treatment for newest arrivals in Mackay region
AS THE new royal baby entered the world, another little gem was welcomed into the Mackay community.
Gracie Rose Dangerfield was born at 11.58pm on Monday and now shares a birthday with the newest member of the British royal family - Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's yet to be named new son.
The proud mum, Mackay Base Hospital midwife Alicia Moerkerken, already has two sons and was excited to now have her first daughter.
"I learned after Gracie was born she shared a birthday with the royal baby,” Ms Moerkerken said.
"It is (exciting) now with all the attention she's getting - she doesn't seem too fazed by it though. (My sons) are smitten - I think it will be a fight over who cuddles her most at home between her dad and brothers.”
Weighing in at 2.8kg, Gracie was one of three babies in the district born the same day as the new little royal. One of the babies was born at the same hospital and one at Proserpine.
Ms Moerkerken's partner, Matthew Dangerfield, was ecstatic at the arrival of his first child. She said he was over the moon and cried more than anyone in the labour ward.
No doubt like the Queen, Mr Dangerfield's mother Helen said she was proud her son finally had his first child.
"I know how much my son wanted this ... he's very happy,” she said.
