Roos perform great AFL escape

A SIX goal final quarter has seen North Coffs deny Coffs Swans a maiden 2012 win coming from behind to claim an 88-84 victory at Fitzroy Oval.

It was a tragic end for the Swans who had lead until the final four minutes of the match and are now resigned to a winless season.

With time running down an inspired Kangaroos lifted to overpower its battle wearied opponent.

For North Coffs coach Russ Matthews the edge of the seat finish had his heart racing.

"The blood pressure got higher and higher each quarter and the boys somehow got it all together in the fourth to get the win," Matthews said.

"We were outplayed in the first three quarters but did enough to stay in the game.

"Credit to the swans they really stuck it to us today."

Leading 77-47 at three quarter time the Swans would've been confident of the perfect end to what has been a horror season.

Unfortunately for Coffs captain coach Tristan Snow the nightmare continued

"It is a tough loss for the boys but we have battled hard and fatigue and cramping got the better of us at the end," Snow said.

"While it hasn't been easy this season i think the young guys in the team will have learnt a lot and will be better players for the experience.

"I was really happy with how we played through the first three quarters and it goes to show what we can do as a side.

"We can still hold our heads up high and hopefully the improvement carries through to next season."

In the days other match Port Macquarie wrapped up second on the table with a textbook 91-43 win against Sawtell/Toormina.

The long road trip south proved too much for the Saints as they fell behind early and never looked like fighting back.

Three goals to Damon Munt and Ben Hennessy lead the scoring for the Magpies while a brace for Craig Parsons was the best of the visitors.
