Rolf Harris described as sinister pervert in closing speech

THE prosecution in the trial of Rolf Harris has described the Australian entertainer as a "sinister pervert" in part of a scathing critique in her closing speech at Southwark Crown Court in London overnight.

Harris is charged with indecently assaulting four girls in the UK between 1968 and 1986. He denies all 12 counts.

She told the jury to consider what she said were striking similarities in the accounts the witnesses, the ABC has reported.

"He was a sinister pervert who had a demon lurking beneath the charming character," Ms Wass said.

She said Harris used his fame to mesmerise his victims, and "considered underage girls as sexual objects" to be "groped and mauled".

The entertainer believed his fame made him untouchable, the prosecutor said, adding he was "brazen and arrogant".
