Elderly resident sick of young church goers throwing rocks
MANNA from heaven it's not.
No, it's rocks, and big ones, that young church goers from Lismore Baptist Church are throwing at her house, says an elderly Lismore resident.
Mrs Madge Hayward has lived in their house in Bent Street for 65 years.
"Every Sunday we have to put up with them throwing rocks at the house," she said.
"Last week I picked up 14 rocks.
"They haven't hit the windows yet.
"But that is what my husband Laurie and I are worried about.
"We shouldn't have to put up with that.
"It's enough to make you turn in your grave."
Mrs Hayward, 83, said she had talked to the pastor and said "I don't blame him".
"It's the parents or the people who are supposed to be looking after the kids," she said.
While the elderly resident said she had told the kids "to get lost", that hadn't worked.
"I suppose I will have to ask the police if anything can be done."
Pastor John Wilson said he had done and would continue to do what he could to address the situation.
"We certainly don't want to cause any distress to this lady," he said.
He said he had previously spoken to parents of the children attending the Sunday School program who had engaged in the rock throwing while waiting to be picked up.
"They settle down and then it starts up again," he said.
