A WEAPON, thought to be a sawn-off firearm, was pointed at the staff of a Coffs Harbour convenience store during a daring daylight armed robbery.

Detectives investigating the hold-up at the Northside Shopping Centre, Park Beach have since released a description of the offender.

Staff at the Three Bears Superstore off Park Beach Road told police the offender produced a shortened firearm on Tuesday night at about 7pm.

The offender was last seen running through a nearby reserve.

He is described as being about 180 to 185cm tall and of medium build.

At the time of the robbery he was wearing a blue hooded jumper, blue jeans, dark shoes and a white/cream cap.

Alerted to the hold-up, police quickly established a crime scene.

With the assistance of the Police Dog Unit a search was conducted in the surrounding area.

However, the alleged offender could not be found.

Detectives and forensic specialists also converged on the scene, making several inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
