Park Beach robber still at large

UPDATE, 1.30pm: A MAN who robbed two women at knifepoint at Park Beach is still at large.

The women, who had been staying at the Hawaiian Sands Motor Inn, decided they would have a barbecue in a park on Ocean Parade close to their accommodation on Monday night.

The pair, aged 26 and 29, returned to their room about 9pm and were unlocking the door when a man confronted them.

They now suspect he could have been hiding behind vehicles in the car park.

He demanded property from the women and grabbed a backpack from one of them.

He then produced a knife and grabbed the other woman’s bag and fled on to Park Beach Road, where he was last seen running west.

The stunned women raised the alarm with hotel management at reception and detectives were called.

The bags contained food, clothing, a mobile phone, cash, a camera and personal cards.

The two mates from Sydney were left badly shaken by their ordeal and were too frightened to publicly reveal their identities.

“I assumed Coffs Harbour was a safe place,” one of them told the Advocate.

“It’s not safe. You should be cautious when you are going out.

“It was very frightening.”

The women said this had never happened to them before and they would be on their guard in future.

Their assailant is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged about 20 to 30, with a medium build, about 185cm tall, cleanly shaven, with short brown hair.

He was wearing a grey shirt and jeans at the time.

If you can help with this investigation, you are urged to contact Coffs Harbour detectives on 6652 0299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
