Dorrigo Mountain road work begins
WORK is finally about to begin to repair landslips and improve drainage on the mountain road to Dorrigo.
A spokesperson for the Roads and traffic Authority (RTA) said following five separate severe weather events in 2009, drainage on the Waterfall Way was damaged and one lane of the road near Sherrard Falls was closed.
Drainage repair works are planned to start on Tuesday, weather permitting.
“This work will involve constructing new drains in the vicinity of Sherrard Falls. Some minor traffic delays may be experienced during work hours between 7am to 5pm on weekdays and 7am to 12.30pm on Saturdays,” the spokesperson said.
“Towards the end of June, work to replace culverts on the road will start. During these repairs it will be necessary for some night closures between 10pm and 4am for about six nights.”
Drainage and repairs to slips near Newell Falls will follow in July.
Further up the mountain at Sherrard Falls, slope repairs at two sites will involve the building of concrete retaining walls.
Work is expected to start in August with much of it carried out at night to reduce the impact on traffic.
This work will require the full closure of the road Monday to Friday between 10pm and 4am for three weeks.
All work on Dorrigo Mountain is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
Motorists will be kept informed of changed traffic conditions through portable message boards.
While proceeding through these work sites, motorists are requested to observe warning signs, drive to the traffic conditions, follow any directions given by traffic controllers and to reduce their speed.
