Road section to close as crews fix major landslip

PINE Creek Way will be closed today as road crews fix a major road slip, which has seen half of the road sink.

The spectacular land subsidence near Bonville, between the Sid Burke rest area and Overhead Bridge Rd, is the result of months of heavy rain.

Roads and Maritime Service says the safety of road users is paramount and recent ongoing wet weather means emergency work to stabilise the slope must be carried out.

The road will be closed from noon on Friday for up to six months so that geotechnical investigations and design and repair work can occur.

Motorists are advised of local diversions via the Pacific Highway between Archville Station Rd and the Mailmans Track interchange.

Electronic message signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changes.

The RMS said wet weather may change work dates and times.

"Every effort will be made to minimise any noise associated with this work," an RMS spokesman said.

"Traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place where needed to ensure the safety of workers, motorists and other road users."
