Ride for Russ raises more than $10,000

AT 6.30pm on Saturday May 21, 10 riders crossed the finish line after riding the 300km journey from Noosa to Maroochydore in memory of their fallen Maroochydore Criminal Investigation Branch colleague Detective Senior Constable Russell Sheehan.

Ride for Russ was organised as a tribute to their colleague as well as fundraising for the organisation Blue Hope. Blue Hope is run by police for police so more officers can access support for post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety.

Over $10,000 was raised which will contribute to the establishment of a 24-hour telephone access to a support service for police.

Ride organiser Detective Senior Constable Linda Florence, was thrilled with the support they received from colleagues and the community.

"It was wonderful to see the community come out and welcome us home after a 14 hour ride and it was also great to see 86 support riders who joined the ride from Noosa," he said.
