BRISBANE woman Richelle Kadadi has been moved out of the intensive care unit as she recovers from severe head injuries suffered in an alleged attack by her boyfriend.

Ms Kadadi, 35, continues to be cared for by a brain trauma specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital after allegedly being bashed on Sunday by former former Brisbane Lions player Albert Proud in their Sunnybank home.

Her condition has improved from critical to serious, and a hospital spokeswoman said she was moved from the ICU in the past 18 hours.

Her partner, 27-year-old Mr Proud, has been charged with attempted murder and is in custody.

Ms Kadadi's friends have rallied around the mother, with an online fundraising appeal collecting more than $11,400 in two days.
