Ricciardo tops practice for Singapore Grand Prix

DANIEL Ricciardo has led a Red Bull one-two in second practice for the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Australian posted a best time of 1min 40.852sec on ultra-soft tyres, edging teammate Max Verstappen by 0.556sec.

Ricciardo had earlier topped the opening practice session, ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton was third in second practice, but his title rival Vettel could only manage 11th.

Mercedes driver Hamilton is three points ahead Vettel in the championship standings going into this weekend's race.

Ricciardo told the BBC his form was no fluke.

"I knew we'd come here with a good car. I feel prepared, so I'm not surprised with our performance. It's important that we obviously keep that but I have a lot of faith we can stay there all weekend," he said.

"A dominant weekend is what I'm after. I know the challenge tomorrow will potentially be stronger from Ferrari and Mercedes, but I'm confident we can stay there."

Practice three and qualifying are scheduled for Saturday, ahead of Sunday's race under lights.
