Rhoades off to mayors' summit
COFFS HARBOUR mayor Keith Rhoades will be among 565 mayors from throughout Australia in Canberra for the first Council of Australian Local Government meeting.
A dinner tonight will be a forerunner to tomorrow's talks at Parliament House, attended by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
The meeting will focus on infrastructure needs and the challenges facing major cities.
“I will push the barrow for more funding to go into the Roads To Recovery Program,” Cr Rhoades told the Coffs Coast Advocate from Canberra yesterday.
“It's been a very good program over the years, but not enough money has been filtering out.”
One of the workshops Cr Rhoades will attend will focus on infrastructure such as roads and bridges. Several senior ministers will attend the talks, including Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Treasurer Wayne Swan and Climate Change Minister Senator Penny Wong.
On Friday in Sydney, Cr Rhoades was re-elected unopposed as the NSW Country Mayors' Association chairman at that organisation's AGM.
