REVIEW: The Bodyguard musical is a great night out

BRISBANE'S latest musical offering, The Bodyguard, is an uplifting night of song and dance.

Saturday's opening night performance started brilliantly, raising the audience to their feet.

Paulini Curuenavuli, in her lead role as Whitney Houston's Rachael Marron, was flawless from the moment she hit the stage.

Her voice soared and she hit every note perfectly, no mean feat considering Houston's vocal range, song after fabulous song.

A charismatic Kip Gamblin, as the bodyguard Frank Farmer, played his part beautifully.

The role of Rachael sister's was performed by Prinnie Stevens, who was also flawless in her performance.

The production was witty, funny, cheeky and sad at times - all in the right parts.

I certainly couldn't find fault with either the cast or the enthralling choreography; it was powerhouse performances from every cast member.

I even shed a few tears as every Whitney Houston song they showcased was breathtaking.

There was an electric feeling, enhanced by everything from the sets, to the lighting, costumes and the orchestra.

The night finished with a standing ovation from the packed theatre as cast and guests joined in a rousing rendition of I Want To Dance With Somebody.

This is one musical I am going back to enjoy again.

The Bodyguard The Musical plays QPAC's Lyric Theatre through August 13.
