REVEALED: Queensland's 'beefiest' pie named best on Coast

WITH 10 stores across southeast Queensland and a strong local following, it's no wonder Beefy's was voted as having the best pie on the Sunshine Coast.

The Daily put a call out to find the Coast's best meat pie, and was inundated with hundreds of pastry-lovers nominating their favourite lunch-time feed.

After the search was narrowed down to the top 10, local favourite Beefy's took out the top spot with 39 per cent of the votes.

Owner Mark Hobbs said he was "honoured” to receive the commendation from Sunshine Coast locals.

"We've won a few awards, but I take this as a real honour,” Mr Hobbs said. "It was the Sunshine Coast locals who were voting ... and at the end of the day that's who we want to please.”

Mr Hobbs said the pies were a crowd favourite thanks to quality ingredients and signature flavours.

"It's getting a meat pie that's chock-a-block full of meat and having the nice flavours that bring it all together,” he said.

Among Beefy's many recommendations, a number of locals praised its gluten-free options.

"One of my sons has coeliac disease and he could never have any of our products,” Mr Hobbs said.

"So we didn't want to just make any gluten-free pastry, we wanted to try to make a gluten-free pie that was as close to the traditional pies that we have now.

"The gluten-free pies have certainly become a very popular product for us.”

To back Queensland in the upcoming State of Origin III, Beefy's is also going head-to-head with Glenorie Bakery in NSW for its annual "Pie of Origin” series.

Origin great Kerrod Walters has backed Beefy's for the win in its biggest fundraising campaign yet to raise $35,000 for the Queensland Children's Hospital.

"While it's all about raising money for the kids, every Queensland loves beating NSW and that's why Beefy's has set the biggest fundraising target yet,” he said.

Mr Hobbs said one dollar from every Big Queenslander Pie - the "biggest and beefiest pie by far” - would go straight to the Queensland Children's Hospital.

"So come on, Queensland. We can't do it without you. Get your hands on a Big Queenslander Pie and back Queensland for the win,” he said.
