BREAKING: It is the announcement Toowoomba residents have been waiting for and now Grand Central has finally revealed the opening date of its retail galleria.

Stage one of the development will open in less than one month, on Thursday, September 15.

Stage one of the development is fashion-focused.

It is just a small taste of the overall development with most new stores coming online next year.

About 40 to 50 retailers have been secured and will open their doors as part of this first stage, with the bulk of them trading in time for the Carnival of Flowers.

Grand Central centre manager Shaine Beveridge said this was news Toowoomba residents had been waiting for.

"I am pleased we have been able to bring the opening of this stage forward, and what is even more exciting is that there is much more to come," he said.

"Stage one will be progressively opened through to Christmas with a fashion focus that we know will be enthusiastically received by locals looking to express their own personal style without having to leave Toowoomba.

"The development in its totality will be unveiled in the first half of 2017, together with around 140 retailers.

"We have had a long-term vision to create a place the Toowoomba community can embrace and a space that is emblematic of the vibrant, diverse and outstanding regional hub the city has become.

"I am very proud of what we are delivering for the community, and as they see the development brought to life over the coming weeks and months, my firm hope is they will be proud of Grand Central too.
