Resorts team up for quake victims

EIGHTEEN resorts in Mooloolaba and Alexandra Headland have teamed up to support the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal by auctioning 140 nights and giving all proceeds to quake victims.

People keen for a bit of luxury can bid online or choose to buy their holiday immediately.

Glenn Buckland from Mooloolaba’s Peninsula Resort said Kiwis made up a large percentage of visitors to the Sunshine Coast.

They also dominated the local resort industry, with an estimated 70% of resort managers coming from “across the ditch”.

“So naturally we have close ties and anything we can do to support our ninth state, we are going to do, as they have done for us with the recent Queensland floods,” Mr Buckland said.

“We will look at how this appeal works out and maybe other resorts can add to the list.”
