Rescue crews can now see even more

WESTPAC Life Saver Rescue Helicopter crews are celebrating the arrival of new equipment to help them with training.

North Coast firm BSMS Security has donated a mobile camera device called an ‘eWitness HD System’ worth $1200.

This small camera can be mounted to the crew helmets and provides footage which the helicopter cameras can’t capture.

Ideally the camera will be worn by the crew as they are winched down the wire from the helicopter to an emergency scene.

“We are a community-based company and believe in giving back to the community,” said Terry Jones, BSMS Group general manager.

“The camera device will add another dimension to the vision that is already being captured and we hope that it will further assist the rescue crews with their training.

“We’d like to encourage all our customers and their employees to lend their support to the rescue helicopters.”

The new equipment complements the four lipstick cameras on one of the rescue choppers.

These cameras help capture footage from four different angles including inside the cockpit and from the roof of the helicopter and help the crews when they debrief after a mission and with training.

Rescue helicopter chief crewman Roger Fry acknowledged the BSMS Group’s support.

“This is a great use of their resources. Terry and his company’s support was instantaneous and we appreciate his passion and willingness to become involved,” Mr Fry said.
