Representative rugby league returns to Coffs Harbour
IT'S been a long time coming but the Country v City Origin match has returned to Coffs Harbour
Rival coaches Trent Barrett and Brad Fittler were joined by Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight as well as a bevy of Rugby League Officials to officially launch the April 21 clash today.
Both Fittler and Barrett were excited ahead of the match praising the choice of Coffs Harbour as the site of this year's match.
"Coffs is a beautiful part of NSW and the stadium here is a great facility to hold City v Country," Barrett said.
"It is great to be able to hold this match in different parts of the state every year.
"It is a good opportunity to show local kids the best players in the game and give them something to aspire to."
Cr Knight said the match was set to be another big event on the Coffs Coast.
"It is great to have the opportunity to host the City v Country game in Coffs Harbour," Cr Knight said.
"It will be a massive week leading up to the match with plenty of activities set to take place.
"This event continues to showcase we are a cultural and sporting city."
City Origin coach Fittler said he will spend the early rounds of the season identifying potential players for his squad.
"At the moment it has been a real treat to have the footy back," Fittler said.
"It is still a while away until the squad is named however I will be watching each week and paying attention to players who are in form."
Tickets for the clash go on sale on March 21 at ticketek.com.au and are expected to sell out fast.
