Renowned artists in exhibition

AN exhibition of works by renowned Australian sculptor Denese Oates will be on show for the first time at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery from tomorrow.

“Having a show of Denese’s work is a real coup for the Gallery,” said Gallery Director/Curator Dr Leigh Summers.

“Her pieces are represented in many prestigious Australian Galleries including Parliament House, the University of Sydney Union, New England Regional Art Museum, the Alexander Mackie Collection, Wollongong City Art Gallery, Burnie Regional Art Gallery, Artbank, Rockhampton Art Gallery and the National Gallery.

“Although Denese has been working in the field for the past 20 years, this particular exhibition will include wall-mounted and free-standing work created in the past five years. In addition, the Gallery will also open an exhibition on the same evening of large, abstract paintings by regional artist Nicholas Daunt and we’re very lucky that both artists will be at the opening on Friday night,” she said.

Both exhibitions open at 6pm tomorrow and all are welcome. On Saturday, February 27 at 10.30am, Denese Oates will also host a walk and talk through the exhibition. Entry is $5 and includes refreshments.

The Gallery is also hosting its second operatic recital on Saturday, February 27, at 7.30 pm featuring Sydney-based tenor Lorenzo Rositano and accompanist Lindsay Gilroy.
