Reds destroy Newcastle proving they are fine without Suarez

LIVERPOOL striker Luis Suarez started his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, but the Reds did not appear to miss him, winning 6-0 at Newcastle on the weekend.

Two goals apiece from Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson and one each from Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini condemned Newcastle to its biggest home defeat since 1925.

The result has left Newcastle clinging to Premier League life as it is now only five points above the bottom three.

Elsewhere, third-last Wigan missed a great chance to climb out of the relegation zone after defender Emmerson Boyce scored a last-minute own goal in the 2-2 draw at home against Spurs.

Boyce had earlier scored - at the other end.

Second-placed Manchester City beat visitors West Ham 2-1 thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure.

Norwich remain haunted by the threat of regelation after a 1-0 loss at Stoke, while Everton improved its chances of playing in Europe next season after beating Fulham 1-0.

Referee Robert Madley, in charge of his first Premier League game, sent three players off as West Brom won 3-0 at Southampton.
