Redbacks test Bears' limits in narrow defeat
RUGBY UNION: Highfields Redbacks coach Cameron Donaldson is frustrated but proud.
Frustrated that his team was unable to record a win at the weekend but extremely proud of the performance his players produced.
Despite losing 34-18 to Toowoomba Bears, Donaldson liked what he saw and so did the neutral fans.
"It's frustrating when you don't get the win," Donaldson said.
"But on the other hand I am very proud of the boys. It was our best team performance of the season, we've had plenty of individual brilliance but this was a great team performance.
"They never gave and I think we really tested Bears. After the game quite a few people said they thought we looked very impressive - that's the first time it's happened this year."
After a tense opening 20 minutes, Bears opened the scoring with a penalty goal before Redbacks struck back with a try.
The teams then traded blows for the remainder of the game.
"It was frantic game. End to end stuff," Donaldson said.
"They'd get away from us and then we'd come back at them.
"In the end we couldn't quite close the gap. Bears' scrambling defence was really good - they're a good side and they deserve credit for that."
