Recent rain has waterfalls roaring

THE Waterfall Way is living up to its name with local falls including Dangar Falls in Dorrigo and Crystal Shower Falls in Dorrigo National Park putting on a treat for visitors.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) area manager Janelle Brooks said Dorrigo Rainforest Centre received 145 millimetres of rain over the Christmas period and up to New Year's Eve.

"This has brought much needed relief to landholders and flow to the Bellinger River catchment creeks and rivers," she said.

Crystal Shower Falls provide a unique experience in that you can walk behind the waterfall into a cavern from where you can look through a veil of falling water, said Janelle.

"The mist from the waterfall provides a welcome relief after walking through the humid rainforest.

"You can take a picture of your friends and family behind the waterfall from the suspension bridge in front."

Crystal Shower Falls and Tristania Falls can be visited as part of the Wonga Walk beginning at Dorrigo Rainforest Centre.

"Further afield, the rain has reinvigorated the Nymboida River in Nymboi-Binderay National Park where camping areas are busy and white water activities have resumed after the long dry spell," Ms Brooks said.

The Wonga Walk is one of only a couple of North Coast walks selected as best nature walks in NSW this summer.

Dorrigo Rainforest Centre is open daily throughout the school holidays. For further information on walks available call 6657 2309.
