Reality bites in TV battle for $1 million cash prize

JASON Dundas couldn't resist the opportunity to make someone a millionaire.

The TV presenter and model left his enviable three-year gig hosting live breakfast TV from Times Square to take his first stab at reality television back home in Australia.

The 32-year-old hosts Channel 7's new show The Big Adventure, which challenges 12 Aussies to compete in extreme conditions for a $1 million grand prize.

"It's the show I've wanted to do for a long time," Dundas told APN.

"It's a big deal for me. I've never given someone a million dollars before."

The show is a reality TV mash-up of sorts, blending elements of Survivor, The Mole, Big Brother and Wipe Out.

Living on a secluded tropical island, the contestants must compete in challenges on a floating grid called the "sky rig" to get closer to the $1 million guarded under lock and key.

"When it was pitched to me I thought The Hunger Games instantly," he said.

"They have to live on this island and forge relationships. Each day they have to work in teams and then they have to turn on each other.

"You need to use everything you have (to win), from your smarts to your strength and your ability to make relationships."

The large cash prize will bring out the best and worst in the contestants, said Dundas.

"It's a prize that is going to make people want to fight and make them push their bodies to the limit," Dundas said.

"It's fascinating to watch how people's true colours shine in certain situations. The snake in the grass will emerge.

"It's a tremendous struggle for a lot of them. They're in that situation where they have to make a call and look at what they're playing for."

Dundas face won't be absent from American TV screens for long. The former Getaway presenter has also scored another hosting gig as the face of MTV America's new reality dance competition Beyond Dance.

The Big Adventure debuts tonight at 6.30pm on Channel 7.
