Realisation of skate park is CHERI on top
STANDING on Brelsford Park with plans in hand, Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight said she hoped to officially open Coffs Harbour's Skate Park before the year's end.
Meeting with council surveyors and key players in the skate park concept, Cr Knight walked interested locals through the concept plans, which have been adopted by the council.
"Giving the youth of Coffs Harbour a skate park they can be proud of has been one of my top aims since I first stood for council, so this very first step in the construction process is a really, really exciting moment," Cr Knight said.
Members of local skater and BMX group Coffs Harbour Extreme Riders Inc (CHERI) were briefed by council staff on the project.
"As advocates for the skate park, CHERI would like to thank council for allowing us to have input into the park design and we look forward to working with council on the next phase of this very important youth project," CHERI secretary Therese Conlon said.
The council's director of city services Ben Lawson said the council hopes to have detailed design and quotations completed by the end of September.
"We're focused on completing these works for the community as soon as possible," Mr Lawson said.
"At this stage we anticipate we will be able to open the finished facility by the end of this year."
