Rates hike on cards for Nambucca

NAMBUCCA Shire Council plans to increase its rates revenue by 10.04% in 2012/2013.

The increase comprises:

  • a 3% inflation provision (rate peg);
  • 5.04% for continuation of the environmental levy and loan finance for the replacement of Deep Creek Bridge and the stabilisation of Riverside Drive; and
  • 2% for additional revenue to fund a loan program to improve the council's sealed road network.

"Because 5.04% of the rate increase concerns the continuation of an existing component of council's rates, the actual increase in the typical rate over that levied in 2011/2012 would be 5%," the council said in a statement.

Submissions to the council are due by November 30 and if the rate increase is approved by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Authority, it would take effect from July 1 next year.
