Rally revs up tourist bookings

ACCOMMODATION providers, food suppliers and retailers are among the Coffs Coast businesses preparing for a busy week in the lead-up to Coates Hire Rally Australia.

The NSW Government's tourism body Destination NSW estimates the event will again attract more than 13,000 visitors to the Coffs Coast, injecting an estimated $12 million into the regional economy.

Manager of the Coffs Coast Visitor Information Centre Brian Bowers said he expected to see plenty of "no vacancy" signs displayed by accommodation providers over the weekend.

"With the rally, the accommodation bookings really start to pick up later in the week," Mr Bowers said.

"That includes bookings at local resorts and motels and I think a lot of the visitors do leave it until the last minute to decide to head to Coffs Harbour for the weekend."

The State Government's economic analysis of Rally Australia in 2011 estimated the event generated more than 64,000 bed nights in Coffs Harbour.

If you know someone who is travelling to the coast for Coates Hire Rally Australia, tell them to get in early.
