Rally event rained out

THE Coffs Coast Short Course Rally scheduled for March 14-15 has been cancelled as the recent heavy rains caused some damage to roads being used for the event.

Assistant clerk of course Bruce McDougall made the decision to cancel the event after checking the course.

“The roads north of Bucca Road were the worst affected and would not have been fun to rally on,” he said.

“Instead, the club will hold a car testing day on March 15 at Newry Forest, commencing at 10am.”

Nathan Quinn suffered bad luck at last weekend's Rally of Canberra with motor problems causing an early retirement from the event.

Trent Francis is tackling the NSW Hillclimb championship in his Toyota MR2.

An excellent third in class was earned at the first round of the Championship held in Canberra in February.

Showing the diverse interests within the club, Brett Saunders is heading to Eastern Creek to compete this coming weekend.

Brett will compete in his 1990 Nissan Silvia at the Compak Attak Drag racing meeting which will be held at the Western Sydney International Dragway.

Brett, a long-time club and committee member, will be up against 60-plus entrants in his class, which caters for street cars.

He also competes in the clubs' motorkhanas in the same car, with spectacular style and has received much appreciated support for his racing from Mike Blewitt Service Division and EFI Evolutions.

The Coffs Coast Rally is back on June 27-28 so watch the Coffs Coast Advocate for more news.
