Rally drivers rely on panel-beater
IN a sport like the rally, every driver needs to know a good panel-beater.
When ARC competitor and Western Australian two-wheel-drive rally champion Razvan Vlad hit a tree in his Ford Festiva his choice of repairer was Coffs Harbour’s Absolute Panel & Paint.
Having shipped the rally car from South Australia to Coffs Harbour, Raz and his Perth-based Maxy Rally Team relied on the local guys to get his car ship-shape for the Coffs Coast’s ARC event.
“The guys (and gals) at Absolute Panel and Paint did a great job to repair the rear of the car after my quick off-road excursion,” Raz said.
“Mick and Tam organised everything and the car is ready with more than a week to spare.”
The Maxy Rally Team flies to the Coffs Coast on Sunday and will test drive the new-look rally car on Monday prior to the start of the Coffs Coast Forest Rally next Thursday.
Absolute Panel and Paint owner Mick Hayer said he expects local panel-beaters to have their work cut out for them during Rally Australia week.
“Some of these cars have been crashed 100 times before,” Mr Hayer said.
“When they come in for repair you just have to make the most of what you have to work with.
“Raz said his smash happened when he wiped out a tree across the back of the car in the last rally he competed in.
“It was great to work on the Festiva and play our part in getting him ready to race,” he said.
