Rally Australia sets up Coffs base

RALLY Australia has set up a base in Coffs Harbour to serve as its headquarters leading into the Australian leg of the 2011 FIA World Rally Championships.

Planning is well under way for the WRC Rally Australia to be held on the Coffs Coast from September 8 to 11 next year.

“With our office now open, staff will commence meeting with community organisations, local businesses and residents to provide them with information about the event and to share ideas for 2011,” Rally Australia chairman Graham Fountain said.

Community consultation has commenced and the rally course, spectator points, contracting opportunities and volunteer information will be completed once feedback is received.

The Australian leg of the WRC is expected to provide worldwide benefits to the local community through team and spectator expenditure and exposure on international television to hundreds of millions of viewers.

It’s hoped the event will also create local employment opportunities.

Last year Rally Australia generated up to $16.9 million in new economic activity for the Northern Rivers region.
