Rain won't slow bowls down

THE rain was falling at Park Beach Bowling Club yesterday but it could not prevent 80 of the state’s best young lawn bowlers taking to the greens for the NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) championships.

The North Coast team, including promising Coffs Coast bowlers Corey Wedlock, Josh Forbes, Josh Hicks, Kenita Monks and Daniel Gilmore, was locked in a tight battle against Riverina late yesterday for a spot in this morning’s final.

In yesterday’s other semi-final, Hunter was up against South Coast.

Championship convenor Gavin Holburn said that the standard of play during this week’s championships was exceptional, is spite of the players’ tender years.

“I’ve seen this standard for 10 years and this year is a very high standard,” Holburn said.
