Rain won't dampen Lipp's plan for feature pair
With rain threatening to throw South-East Queensland weekend racing into disarray, Toowoomba trainer Rex Lipp has plan B in place for two feature candidates.
Queensland Winter Carnival three-year-old prospect Our Beebee and Toowoomba Cup hopeful Spirit Of Kiowa are set to continue their campaigns for Lipp at Doomben tomorrow.
Our Beebee will be on a possible Queensland Guineas path when she lines up in the Three-Year-Old Handicap (1350m) while Spirit Of Kiowa is due to contest the Benchmark 75 Handicap (2200m).
Lipp was left guessing yesterday, with all industry members, on the chances of racing going ahead tomorrow but is not concerned about the possibility of a washout.
"It all depends on the weather now, but at this stage Our Beebee will run and she'll race well,” Lipp said.
"But if she doesn't run it won't upset things too much.
"I might give her a little ease up with the winter carnival in mind for her.
"We're focussing on the Queensland Guineas at this stage, but she's got to show us yet she is up to a race like that.
"You can't do much more than she's doing, but she'll tell us where she's headed and there are other options for her like the Gai Waterhouse at Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast Guineas, later in the carnival.”
Lipp will focus on his home-track features next Saturday at Clifford Park with Spirit Of Kiowa and Weetwood Handicap candidate In His Stride.
"We're hoping to get Saturday in for Spirit Of Kiowa, but I'm not concerned if she doesn't run.
"In His Stride will be nominated for the Weetwood and I just hope his 86 rating is good enough to get him in the race.”
