Rain affected track sees race meeting called off

THE postponement of today's Coffs Harbour race meeting has set off a storm on social media among industry participants.

Stewards conducted an inspection of the track this morning following yesterday's rain and found a section between the 400m and 200m had been severely affected.

They deemed that section made the track unsafe for racing.

The rainfall reading in the 24 hours leading up to the track inspection was 20ml with the last showers falling around 7.14pm on Thursday.

The course has undergone improvements since the annual Gold Cup carnival in August that were intended to handle rainfall of this size.

Despite the races not being on, the Men Of League function planned to be held trackside is still going ahead.
