Racing club’s $500,000 upgrade

COFFS Harbour Racing Club is set to receive a further $500,000 to upgrade drainage of its racecourse.

Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser announced the funding yesterday and said it follows funding for the recently completed sand fast work track.

"The upgrade of the drainage on the course proper will greatly improve the capacity of the racecourse to handle heavy rain," Mr Fraser said.

"Works will include both sand slit drainage and sand grooving of the entire width of the course proper."

Coffs Harbour was recently forced to abandon its September 1 meeting three days prior to racing due to heavy rains. The race meeting was subsequently held in Grafton.
