Race fall brings three jockeys down

GRAFTON jockey Ben Looker was taken to Grafton Base Hospital following a sickening three horse fall that sent jockeys tumbling like 10 pins in front of a shocked grandstand crowd.

The fall occurred 50m after the post in the Westlawn Business Services Class 3 Hcp.

Apprentice Cassandra Schmidt was first to bite the dust when Southern Blossom appeared to clip another runner's heels and crashed to the turf. Looker's mount Baby I Know couldn't avoid the scrimmage and crashed thereafter. Raymond Spokes (After the Bounce) also came down.

Spokes was the first to his feet but Schmidt lay motionless on the turf and Looker, 20m further up the track was also laying prone on his stomach.

Ambulance officers were quickly on the scene. Eventually Schmidt, badly winded, got to her feet although looking ashen faced.

Looker got to his feet some 10 minutes later but he was limping and complaining of lower back pains.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry until Looker is fit to give evidence.
