Quinnell appeals suspension

FORMER Coffs Harbour apprentice jockey Jamie Quinnell has been quick to lodge an appeal against the severity of a penalty imposed on him by Racing NSW.

Last week Quinnell pleaded guilty to taking a banned substance after an irregularity in a sample taken at Warwick Farm on October 5 was found.

A date for the appeal to be heard is yet to be set but until such time the talented hoop has had his apprentice permit suspended by stewards until January 1 while his licence to ride in races has been suspended until June 8.

This lengthy ban will be reduced to April 8 upon Quinell completing a satisfactory period of professional counselling.
