Qld chef Daniel Rooney charged with attempted murder
A PORT Douglas chef is set to face court this afternoon charged with trying to kill 20-year-old Jessica Hamill.
Daniel Rooney, 24, was arrested by police last night after he allegedly fled a car which he had driven off the Kuranda Range with Ms Hamill inside.
He has been charged with attempted murder, deprivation of liberty and multiple other charges and is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later today.
Ms Hamill spent the night in Cairns Hospital although was expected to be released today.
It is understood Mr Rooney took Ms Hamill against her will from her Port Douglas home late on Tuesday night.
He allegedly fled the car on foot about 6.30pm last night and was chased by officers including the Special Emergency Response Team through bushland behind the Canopy's Edge estate in Smithfield.
