Promising Kawana duo ready for world championships campaign

CANOE: Sunshine Coast duo Alyce Burnett and Alyssa Bull will use this week's under-23 world championships in Portugal as a rehearsal for the senior world championships next month.

The Olympics prospects arrived in Europe on Sunday and have settled in well.

"Since arriving we have been able to get some quality sessions done in both the K2 and K1 and have been hitting some good targets," Burnett said.

The pair is also coming off the back of a solid block of training in Australia.

"This year our preparation has been awesome," Burnett said. "Every session we do we have been able to pull a positive from and make improvements."

The Kawana Waters combination will use the under-23 worlds as preparation for the for senior worlds in Italy, where they will compete as a K2 500 combination,

"We're really lucky to have the opportunity to do this so we are making the most of it," Burnett said.

They won the national K2 500 title earlier in the year and then placed 11th at the first World Cup event in Portugal and eighth at the second event at Germany.

"We are quite perfect for each other and I can't wait to see what we can do in this crew over these next two championships and into the future," Burnett said.

"We are similar athletes mentally and physically, come from the same sporting background and have grown up in the same place."'
