Probation after trying to steal groceries while drunk

WITH a trolley loaded with almost $720 worth of groceries, Luke Cunningham and a co-offender walked past the Woolworths checkout and left the shop.

As Northside Plaza employees gave chase, the pair left the stolen goods on the corner of High and Ford streets.

The incident happened on September 27, and last Wednesday Cunningham appeared in Rockhampton's Magistrates Court on four charges related to a series of incidents over the past three months.

Ten days earlier, Cunningham and another man were in a taxi on their way to Gracemere, clocking up a $32 fare.

Cunningham got out of the cab while the other man stole the taxi's coin dispenser, and the pair left without paying.

Cunningham later told police he was "so drunk he didn't remember anything" from the incident, which occurred around 5pm.

The court also heard on October 3 he and a co-offender ran away from Ski, Surf and Snow after the co-offender stole two shirts and a pair of shorts.

He was given nine months' probation and ordered to pay $66 restitution for the clothes and taxi fare.
