PRIMARY Producers have until December 5 to comment on the Federal Government's Green Paper on agricultural competitiveness.

Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker said the paper, released by Federal Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce, promotes 25 policy themes.

"The paper is essentially the result of consultation with farmers, industry and community representatives about what's required to expand the agricultural sector and boost regional development," Mr Hartsukyer said.

"Issues ranging from infrastructure, through to finance, research, education and drought are all included in the document."

Minister Joyce said the Government was committed to ongoing consultation.

"I said I wanted to hear the big ideas, to shake things up - I was looking for new policies to truly support our farmers and our strong agricultural sector into the future," Minister Joyce said.

"Now it's about whittling these ideas down and deciding what's really important to take into the future, particularly given the tight fiscal environment."
