Prevett's return to boost Panthers

STAR five-eighth Ryan Prevett has been cleared for takeoff and will wear the No.6 jumper for Sawtell in Sunday's VB Gold Group 2 grand final clash with Nambucca Heads at Coronation Park.

Prevett was injured in the win over Coffs Harbour on September 3 during the motion of scoring a try and was ruled out at the last minute from taking his place in the side that beat Macleay Valley in the preliminary final last weekend.

Panthers coach Rohan Loudon admitted leaving Prevett out was a calculated gamble which eventually paid off.

"Yes, it was taking a big risk and we wouldn't have looked good if we had been beaten, but there was no option," Loudon said.

"After he landed on the elbow, severe bruising meant he couldn't bend it properly and it could have gone wrong if I'd played him.

"Having the break leaves him fully fit and we'll need him that way for the Nambucca game."

Centre Dale Middleton received a groin injury in Sunday's win and lock Darren Horne was stretchered from the field just before half-time. Loudon will test the fitness of both at training tomorrow night.

"We'll have one last run on Saturday to make sure that the minds are focused," the coach said.

"Mainly, the build-up will be relaxed and nothing much will change as there's no point flogging them at this time of year."
