Premier Palaszczuk's pledge to the Sunshine Coast

WRITEN BY PREMIER ANNASTACIA PALASZCZUK:

THE Sunshine Coast is one of my favourite places in Queensland and holds a special place in my heart.

The fond memories of countless family holidays here at the beach and the hinterland are shared with most people in the southeast and across the state, country, and even the world.

It's not only a world-class tourist destination, but it's a world-class place to live.

The Coast is one of the most liveable regions in Queensland but it's also one of the fastest growing in the country.

That growth means we need to invest in infrastructure, in our schools, roads and hospitals to keep up with demand.

Unfortunately, for too long, Sunshine Coast residents have been taken for granted by members of Parliament who have failed to stand up for their communities and their federal LNP colleagues to fight for a better share of Federal Government funding.

Even when those members of Parliament were Cabinet ministers in the previous LNP government, they still failed to deliver for the Sunshine Coast.

Despite all this, Labor has got on with the job.

As well as investing hundreds of millions of dollars to improve roads, hospitals and schools on the Sunshine Coast which means jobs, I'm making a commitment that my Government will do more, we will do better than what your current LNP MPs have been doing for you and we won't take you for granted.

That's why we're here as part of our Governing from the Sunshine Coast program.

This is an opportunity for us to reach out to the community and to listen.

Do our politicians do enough for the local community?

This poll ended on 11 April 2019.

Current Results

I think they do plenty.

14%

Not nearly enough.

65%

No, but I don't think any would.

20%

This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.

We want to hear about the issues, the concerns, the good and the not-so-good. We want to ensure the Sunshine Coast develops and prospers into the future and how we can help make this happen.

We're doing this through our massive investment in major infrastructure projects, including Bruce Highway upgrades supporting 680 jobs and the Beerburrum to Nambour rail line.

It was a Labor Government which started the $1.8 billion Sunshine Coast University hospital, and it was Labor who finished it.

My Government is also delivering upgrades to the Caloundra and Nambour hospitals.

We've committed $236 million in schools and education facilities, $15 million in the Sunshine Coast Submarine Cable project and it was Labor who also helped make the Sunshine Coast Airport expansion a reality by giving it co-ordinated project status.

These are just a few key projects we've backed and we're here to let Sunshine Coast residents know of the many more we're delivering.

This is a great time to be living and working on the Sunshine Coast. And my Government is proud to be supporting residents and businesses every step of the way.

But imagine how much more we could do if you had local members who delivered for their community.
