Powerline to be upgraded at Ulmarra

RESIDENTS of Ulmarra and surrounding rural areas such as Swan Creek will soon have a more reliable power supply with a major powerline replacement program due to be completed this month.

The works being conducted by Essential Energy include the replacement of around 5.4km of powerlines along the Pacific Hwy near Ulmarra.

Essential Energy Far North Coast general manager Richard Wake said the new powerlines would increase network capacity and improve the reliability of supply.

“We’re taking the opportunity to completely overhaul the network, with the replacement of pole cross arms, insulators and associated equipment on every structure on this powerline, along with several pole changes,” Mr Wake said.

“Overhauling the line all at once will minimise the amount of work we’ll need to do on the system in the future, and this is particularly important because the Pacific Hwy is such a busy road, so we don’t want to inconvenience motorists or residents.”

The upgrade would involve two local power interruptions from Ulmarra south to Swan Creek between 8.30am and 3.30pm on two Thursdays, July 21 and 28, weather permitting.

He said affected properties would be notified in writing.

“Essential Energy recognises that the electricity interruptions associated with this work may cause some inconvenience – we thank the community for their patience during construction,” he said.
