Positives for Aussie women in final defeat

AUSTRALIA will ramp up its planning for next year's Rio Olympics after losing to Canada 20-17 in the final of the last tournament of the 2014-15 world series in Amsterdam.

"It's been an outstanding season - a growth year for us. We've had to contend with disappointing tournaments in Canada and the USA, but all athletes in sport suffer setbacks and we've come back stronger for it," he said.

"We've got a young squad and we are excited (about) what the future holds over the next 15 months in the lead up to Rio."

England took the fourth automatic qualifying position by beating the US in the playoff for third and fourth.

Overall placings: 1: New Zealand (108 pts); 2: Canada (96); 3: Australia (94); 4: England (76), 5: USA (76); 6: France (72).
