Police station is still on list

COFFS Harbour will be getting a new police station - eventually.

Fears planning for the much-needed station would be put on hold reached boiling point on Tuesday as the mini-budget announced there would be a $5 million per annum reduction in the allocation of funds for police building works.

But the State Government have reaffirmed Coffs Harbour is still on the list.

In a statement released yesterday, Minister for Police Tony Kelly said four new police stations have opened over the past few months, and nine more were to open over the next three years.

“We'll also start work on a further nine new police station and get planning underway for new stations at ... Coffs Harbour,” he said.

“It's still a way off, but we will begin planning as promised,” a spokesperson Mr Kelly said yesterday.

“Basically what we're saying is that the election promise made some time ago (in relation to Coffs Harbour Police Station) remains untouched by this budget,” a spokesperson said yesterday.
