Police pursuit leads to charges

POLICE have charged a disqualified driver following an overnight pursuit.

Shortly after midnight, police detected a Hyundai Excel travelling at 105km/h in a 50km/h zone on Bloomfield Street at South Kempsey.

Police activated their lights and sirens but the vehicle did not stop.

A pursuit commenced which travelled along several roads in South Kempsey and Euroka.

The pursuit ended after travelling onto Crescent Head Road then Blairs Lane, where the Hyundai stopped on the side of the road.

When police went to arrest the 24-year-old driver, he lashed out with his hands and feet.

Officers managed to bring the man under control and handcuff him.

He was taken to Kempsey Police Station and interviewed by investigators.

Police have charged the man with police pursuit (Skye's Law), driving while disqualified, special range PCA and resisting arrest.

The man was refused bail and is to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today.
