Police uncover $60K drug haul

POLICE have issued a stern warning to commercial cannabis growers in the region that it’s only a matter of time before they too are served with search warrants.

In their latest drug bust, police have seized a $60,000 haul from a Halfway Creek property, using the evidence to put other drug growers on notice.

Police say a 55-year-old man should face Coffs Harbour Local Court this morning on drug cultivation, supply and possession charges. Three other men are also likely to be charged.

“Police from the Coffs Clarence Command Target Action Group executed a search warrant on a Luthers Road property at 10.45am, there they seized two kilograms of cannabis, 40 grams of hashish and 24 cannabis plants,” Coffs Clarence Crime Manager Detective Inspector Cameron Lindsay said.

“This is the latest significant arrest made in this area over the last couple of months and is part of ongoing investigations into the commercial cultivation of cannabis in the area.

“We believe we have made significant inroads into the local supply and trade of drugs.”

Last week police seized $90,000 worth of cannabis with simultaneous raids in Raleigh and Dundurrabin. The operation was part of Strike Force Midkin, an ongoing investigation into large-scale cannabis cultivation.

In January police uncovered one of the largest crops ever seized on the Mid North Coast, an $18 million, five-tonne cannabis crop growing in the Chaelundi National Park, north-west of Dorrigo.

Already one of the most effective commands in the state for drug busts this year, Coffs Clarence police vow the stings will continue.
