Police seek witnesses to assault

IT IS still unclear who assaulted a man in the Coffs Harbour city centre on Sunday afternoon.

The victim, believed to be aged in his 60s, suffered a head injury during a dispute in the Woolworths car park off Park Avenue.

Members of the public reported the assault to police at 12.45pm on Sunday.

Officers arrived to find the man had suffered a head wound.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said paramedics treated him at the scene and he was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a stable condition.

Crime scene police cordoned off the public toilet block and laneway next to the car park as officers interviewed witnesses.

Police are appealing to the public for more information.
