Police blitz again

COFFS/CLARENCE police will hit the highway again this weekend to combat drink-driving.

They will be out in force on all major roads from today to Saturday as a follow-up to last weekend's Operation Drink Drive I.

During that blitz, police were alarmed at the high number of people who drove with alcohol in their system. They snared 25 drink-drivers from 1939 breath tests in the Coffs/Clarence region.

“It's disappointing the message doesn't seem to be getting through,” acting inspector Brett Jackson said.

Officers laid 22 other traffic charges, detected 45 speedsters and issued 76 non-speed related fines.
